So one day she went out to find the culprit, and there he was: the proudest cockerel you've ever seen, standing in the early sun with every feather lit up.
She had to paint him. Thick, lively strokes of oil capture that moment: the flaming red comb, a chest of gold and burnt orange, and a great sweep of tail feathers in inky blue and teal, flicked with white where the light catches.
