Prussia Cove

£1,050.00

Prussia Cove is one of Cornwall's best-kept secrets a hidden curve around the corner from the Mount's Bay coastline, once ruled by the county's most famous smugglers, and still wonderfully unspoiled today. It's so quietly cinematic that Ladies in Lavender, with Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, was filmed here.

I painted this on one of those bright, breezy days when the cove is at its most dramatic with thick sculpted clouds drifting over a calm turquoise sea, and the rocky foreshore lending itself to sculpted oil paint that you could almost clamber over. The texture is the heart of this piece. It catches the light differently as the day moves through your room, so it never looks quite the same twice.

It's an intimate painting, made to be lived with closely, on a shelf, above a desk, in the hallway you pass through every day. A small window onto a wild place.

If you've ever stood at the edge of this coastline and wished you could take the feeling home with you, this is that feeling, held in paint.

Every piece is an original. There's only ever one.
