The tide at Perran-porth doesn't wait.
On a long blustery walk around the coast, I noticed how fast the tide rushed in. I stopped, gathered a handful of pebbles, made some quick drawings looking out towards the little island in the distance, and then retreated to the studio to warm up.
This painting was made from that afternoon / evening light
You can feel the speed of it , the teal stripes of retreating water, the pebbles gathered and laid out like specimens, the soft blush and mauve of wet sand, the structural black lines of rock exposed by the tide. The composition has that particular quality of things caught quickly, before they change or disappear.
A painting made from cold hands and quick eyes. From the particular pleasure of being out in weather that most people stay indoors to avoid.
