Making a Large Commission Piece

After an incredible trip through four countries in Africa—and taking more than 2,000 photographs along the way—I was later commissioned to create this series of paintings for a couple who had just moved into their “forever” home in Cornwall. It was a real honour to translate those memories and experiences into artwork for their space.

One of my favourite subjects from the series is the elephants. It’s not often you see them looking so dark and clean. This particular pair had just crossed the river directly in front of our boat with the rest of the herd, climbing out of the water looking completely refreshed. It was a memorable moment, and one that felt perfect to capture in paint.
